New Terrain Brewing Company Claims Silver Medal at the Great American Beer Festival®
Golden, CO • October 11, 2017— New Terrain Brewing Company received a silver medal at the 2017 Great American Beer Festival (GABF) competition. Presented by the Brewers Association, GABF is the largest commercial beer competition in the world and recognizes the most outstanding beers produced in the United States. The top three winners in the competition’s 98 beer-style categories were announced October 7 at the Great American Beer Festival awards ceremony held at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver, Colorado.
“It was very exciting to hear our name announced for the Suntrip Wit," said Josh Robbins, the Brewmaster of New Terrain Brewing Company. Founded by Josh and his wife, Kaylee, VP of Marketing, the microbrewery just celebrated their first anniversary a couple weeks ago. “To be taking home a silver medal for New Terrain's first GABF feels awesome. We have such a great team of hard-working folks that do so much more than just show up for work every day, mostly because it's just fun and we all love what we do. We're proud of our beers, but for our work to be recognized on a larger platform, that's pretty exciting," said Kaylee, “Although Josh is a very intentional and passionately precise brewer, so I wasn't totally surprised."
New Terrain Brewing Company was recognized in the Belgian Witbier style category for its Suntrip, a refreshing Wit beer made with a blend of traditional and unique ingredients, including hand-milled coriander, which is evident in the gently spiced citrus aroma. The palate has generous notes of tangerine, red apple and pear. The soft texture and pale color come from the use of malted wheat and a special yeast, producing a hazy cloudiness that gave rise to the dutch term "Wit" or white beer. The recipe has been a house favorite from day one, so much so that a spinoff fruited version, Rubus Deliciousus - the Suntrip Wit brewed with fresh raspberries, has a cult following.
New Terrain Brewing Company is a 30-barrel microbrewery with a 10-barrel pilot system and 1/2-barrel nano pilot system housed in a 15,000 square foot brewery warehouse, located adjacent to the open space of North Table Mountain in the beer-loving city of Golden, CO. The brewery specializes in crafting a range of beer styles, driven by a continuous interest in exploration for the perfect beer. The brewery celebrates adventure and an insatiable curiosity, both in the brewhouse and out in the world.
The 2017 GABF competition winners were selected by an international panel of 276 expert judges from 7,923 entries, plus 118 Pro-Am entries, received from 2,217 U.S. breweries.
“Each year the Great American Beer Festival showcases the best that American brewers have to offer,” said Chris Swersey, competition manager, Great American Beer Festival. “With a record 8,000 + entries, this year’s competition was the most competitive to date. Congratulations to all the winners who truly demonstrated why the U.S. is the world’s best and most diverse brewing nation.”
